How To Treat Side Effects Of Pancreatitis?

My wife has been in hospital since Saturday. She has a severe acute case of pancreatitis. She s been on an iv since then, also dilaudin, and electrolights. Her pancreatic enzymes have come down. But she is extremely bloated, looks 9 months pregnant. I m concerned about side effects of the treatment particularly the bloating or secondary complications. Should I be? I m losing faith in her care; it doesn t seem like her doctors are on the same page.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
The diagnosis of acute pancreatitis is usually established by the detection of an increased level of SERUM AMYLASE.
Values of three folds or more above normal virtually clinch the diagnosis if overt salivary glands decrease & gut perforation or infarction are excluded.
These two things I want to explain you before you loose confidence in your treating doctor .
On the one side you mentioned that amylase ( enzyme level ) decreases , so this is the proof that treatment is on right track .
As you mentioned that there is bloating and abdominal distension as these symptoms are due to complication of pancreatitis not due to drugs .
So wait for some times and your wife will be fine .
Good luck.
