How To Treat Sudden Unconsciousness With Breathlessness And Cough?
Last Wednesday, I was laying in bed. It suddenly got hard to breathe and I started coughing. I sat at the edge of my bed and I got harder to breathe and I couldn't hear anything but a long ring in my ear and my heart beat. My heart was also beating fast and hard at the moment. I suddenly got dizzy and fell on the ground. Everything was red in vision with weblike textures then got darker till everything became black. Next thing I knew, I was on my bed and my friend said I was unconscious for 30 minutes. I tried to get out from bed and stand up, but I fell right back down on my friend. Lately, I've been having fevers in the afternoons and I get dizzy, with the feeling of wanting to vomit and difficulty breathing.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM The condition you had is most likely a cough syncope (vasovagal syncope).Vasovagal syncope occurs in response to a trigger, with a corresponding malfunction in the parts of the nervous system that regulate heart rate and blood pressure. When heart rate slows, blood pressure drops, and the resulting lack of blood to the brain causes fainting and confusion. Some people will get this when they are dehydrated with fever and coughing.Any way it is better to get a cardiac check up to rule out other causes to be on safe side.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
