How To Treat Swelling And Pain In The Knee Caused After Excessive Running?

I ran on Friday (I run 6-7 days a week). When I woke up on Saturday, my knee was swollen but not soar. By Sunday afternoon, it was very swollen. I iced it, but woke up today with continued swelling. If I ice it consistently, the swelling goes down. 30 minutes without ice, and it swells again. I am able to walk without pain, but the joint feels stiff (from swelling).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.

This could be bursitis or a torn meniscus

Ibuprofen may help as well as refraining from running for a week or two, but you should have a doctor take a look and get an MRI to see if you need a cortisone injection or even surgery
