Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . There can be many reasons for lip swelling after tooth extraction .

- Firstly there can be a lip bite due to numbness after administration of local anesthesia during extraction procedure .

- Secondly it can be due to allergic reaction caused by antibiotics given after extraction (like some people are allergic to penicillin ) .

- Thirdly it can occur due to allergic reaction to the contents of local anesthesia like benzocaine.

In your case it seems to me that swelling is caused by allergic reaction either due to local anesthesia or antibiotics .

I would suggest you to consult your dentist again for proper evaluation of the condition and treatment . Doctor may change antibiotics and prescribe antihistamine drug oral/topical. He/she may also opt for adrenaline injection.

Till then stop taking antibiotic , give cold compresses to lips 2-3 times a day, take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl and take ibuprofen (if not allergic) or paracetamol for pain and swelling.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
