How To Treat Swollen Tonsils?

my tonsils have been swollen and close to touching eachother in the back of my throat. I am having trouble sleeping lately, not breathing normal, not able to eat or drink much at all. I am in pain all the time, hard to swallow, been going on for a week. I am on day 3 of a zpack, and it's not helping. Help??

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms you are suffering from severe inflammation of tonsils causing TONSILLITIS and it can be due to bacterial or viral throat infection..
As it is causing difficulty in breathing as well as unable to eat anything you should immediately consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can advise you to take antibiotics like Azithromycin or Augmentin for one week.
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen .
Do warm saline gargles.
Steam inhalations and using a humidifier can help..
Drink plenty of water..

In case if the condition does not seems to resolve Tonsillectomy can be advised that is surgical removal of tonsils..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
