How To Treat The Condition Of Alzheimer's?

My elderly father who has alzheimers, in the hosp because he is not really eating or drinking much anymore - after consulting with his doc., we have decided to put him in hospice without a feeding tube. How much longer will our dad have to suffer before he passes on to eternity and will hospice really be able to keep him comfortable enough so he is not in pain? thank you
