How To Treat The Severe Dry Cough Attacks With White Mucus?

I have a problem with severe dry cough attacks that seem to be triggered from sudden temperature changes and sometimes when eating. By temperature change I mean when I get in a cool vehicle when its hot outside is one example I have experienced. I have these attacks 3 or 4 times a day. There is white mucus that accompany these fits. The attacks last anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds. Sometimes longer. Breathing is difficult at time of attack. I do take blood pressure medication but was off meds for a year and still had the attacks. Quit smoking about 4 years ago.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of bronchitis is high in your case.
Bronchitis is common in smokers.
So better to get done clinical examination of respiratory system, chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is needed for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
It will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only.
You may need inhaled bronchodilators, antihistamine and anti inflammatory drugs.
Since all these drugs are prescribed medicines, you need to consult doctor.
So first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
