Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having slight discomfort in my left knee. Its around the lower lateral area of the knee and could be the meniscus or ligament. Sometimes there is a very slight throbbing in the muscle for a minute or two while I lay on the couch. There is no swelling and no visual difference when comparing to the right knee. I ve had it for about 2-3 weeks and I am able to run 3x/week about 3 miles each time as well as walk and bike ride during the week as well. I cautiously make sure I don t pivot on it. I do walk fine, but it won t go away. I am 49-years old and played sports most of my life and ran in 4 marathons in my late to mid-30 s. Thoughts? Ice and rest or more serious? Will Yoga help or hurt? Thank you, Chris
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
The symptoms seem to be related to an overuse of the knee. The most common symptom is lateral knee pain caused by inflammation of the distal portion of the iliotibial band. I suggest to use anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the inflammation. I also suggest cold compresses for local application. Yoga can be helpful.
Hope my answer was helpful.
