How To Treat Umbilical Hernia?

I have an umbilical hernia - I am 52 years old. The belly button is pushing out more and is causing some pain and tightness in that area. Would surgery relive some of this? and will most insurances pay for this? I do plan to consult my primary physician in the next few weeks when I have my bi-annual checkup

Hi.

Insurance should cover a hernia repair surgery which wiuld be the best option for your type of hernia. In this surgery the hernia sac is excised, the contents of the hernia are reeuced and if the defect is larger than 4 cms then a mesh onlay and underlay are used. This surgery is effective and should relieve you of most or all of your symptoms.

Best wishes.
