How To Treat Vaginal Itching After Using Expired Lubricant During Sex?

My boyfriend and I recently had sex and I later realized that the lube we used was 4 months expired. I didn t say anything during sex, but it really burned for a second and later I was itching down there. It was a water based all natural lube. Is this a possible reaction to it being expired?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Dear, I read facts of your query and reviewed it in context to your query on health issues.

I understood your health concerns and feel concerned about them.

Based on the facts of your query the reply is mostly yes.

Still, you should check with your gynecologist or family physician.

Other causes need to be ruled like an infection from unhygienic contacts while using lubricant.

Do's suggested for your case:
• Check with gynecologist to rule out any bacterial infection and to rule out lubricant contact reaction.
• Tab loratidine-antihistaminic - 1 x 2 times a day.
• Tab Dexona - 1 x 2 times a day, x for 2 days only and 1 x once for 2 days and discontinue thereafter.
• Vaginal smear test and review with gynecologist would be needed.

Just don't worry and be patient and cooperate with your doctors, till you verify with your attending doctors. Need to check with the family physician, gynecologist-specialist, if things don't recover.

Other causes need to be verified with your family GP doctor and team of gynecologist-specialist doctors, as the facts may be different from what you submitted.

The second opinion from PCP or GP doctor and if needed with gynecologist-specialist is needed who would do proper investigation after proper physical assessment to resolve your health issues.

For early recovery, please follow above do's which would resolve your complex health issues.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mukund Savaskar
