How To Treat Welts And Blisters In Hand Caused Due To A Allegy On Using Gloves?

I work with ophthalmic surgeons in an eye center. Recently the sterile glove I have been using was changed to another brand that is supposed to be allergy free. since the switch I am now having welts on my hands and fingers, with blisters and extreme itching. Previously used Biogel gloves in the OR without a problem. Have seen a dermatologist and an allergist, have had skin test but nothing definitive from them. Both Dr s think the problem is with the hypoallergenic gloves. What are your thoughts?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain welts and blisters on hands and fingers after using the new gloves seems to be due to be due to allergic reaction to either the material from which the gloves are made as well as it can also be due to the powdered chemical substance that is applied on the inner surface of gloves that comes in contact with the hand..

It seems to be the only change that has happened recently and it seems to be causing Contact Dermatitis..
I would however suggest you to stop wearing the gloves and wear the older ones that are not causing you any symptoms..

You should also start taking anti allergics like Levocetrizine or Allegra.
Apply steroid containing cream over the fingers..
Do cool compresses over the affected areas..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
