How To Treat Wrist And Forearm Pain Caused Due To Muscle Strain?

I used my right arm to turn a wrench yesterday, and within a few minutes my wrist started hurting and my forearm also hurt. I could not fully close my right hand and today there is a slight purple/red area in my palm and on my thumb. Is this just a pinched nerve or something more serious?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history and understood the concerns.
The most common cause I can think about the pain in wrist and forearm within a few minutes after using right arm for wrenching followed by slight purple and red area in hand can be as follows:
Acute muscle tear due to excessive force and bleeding can cause such problems.
This can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Urgent consultation of a Doctor, preferably an Orthopedic Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations such as Ultrasonography or still better the MRI of the affected area can get you the proper diagnosis.
Till then use sling and do not use the affected limb at all.
Try to elevate the limb above heart level in laying down position.
Take an anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen if it suits you.
Further management as per the findings.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
