Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Out of Hydrocodone and Acetoaminophen combination Hydrocodone is an opioid drug and is highly addicting. You are taking the drug for pain and have become dependent on this drug. It is not advisable to take the drug without proper supervision. If you stop the drug cold turkey then there is risk of withdrawal so I'd not advise you to abruptly stop the drug. Best way to reduce the doses is by gradual reduction of the doses. Doses should be reduced by about 20% every two weeks and then total stoppage can be done after 6-10 weeks depending upon response. Dose reduction in this manner will prevent the withdrawal symptoms.
Apart from this concurrent use of other drugs like Gabapentine or Pregabalin etc can help. These drugs will relieve the pain and will also ease the withdrawal. Consult a psychiatrist for help.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
