How To Withdraw From Effexor And Mirtazapine?

I am a recovering alcoholic. I had 19 years sober, relapsed and am now at the six month mark. I experienced depression prior to relapse and was put on Vybrid. In Rehab, they added Effexor and mirtazapine. I think I m having some severe side effects and want to get off some of these but am worried about mood this early in sobriety. What is the safest way to go about reducing some of these?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, you are right. Sudden stoppage of these drugs can cause withdrawal symptoms. So follow these steps for safe discontinuation. Take half tablet daily for 1 month. If you are good then take half tablet on alternate day for 1 month. If you are still good and not developing withdrawal symptoms then taper down to half tablet every three days for 1 month. This is ideal way to taper down any psychotic drug without developing withdrawal symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
