How Will The Health Be Affected When Pituitary Gland Is Not Functioning?
My 50year old, over weight daughter was told yesterday that her pitutary gland is not functioning at all. She was sent for blood tests yesterday a d a fasing blood test today. We are awaiting results. My queston is: How does this condition affect her health overall health? My Email: YYYY@YYYY C.N.
Dear user HI! i am sorry to hear that your daughter 's pituitary is not functioning. It is the master gland and produces some important hormones. 1. GH - to ensure height attainment in children and quality of life in adults. 2. GnRH - to ensure regular periods and pregnancy in females. 3. TSH - for proper thyroid functioning 4. ACTH - for adequate adrenal functioning. so now as your daughter is 50 yrs, height is not the question neither regular periods and pregnancy. so she will face impaired quality of life, hypothyroidism (secondary), and may be hypocortiosolism causing weakness, low BP, fatigue, osteoporosis. but good thing is hormone replacement is available for all of these problems. Regards!
