How Would A Bump On Frontal Right Side Of Head Be Treated While Having Symptoms That Include Swelling, Pain And Severe Headache?

Bump on frontal right side of head that developed a week ago with symptoms that include swelling, pain and severe headache. I do get hair cuts which happened 2 days prior. Swelling is minimal and pain at sight has subsided a little but the headaches is still severe. Should I be concerned?

Hello,

Commonly bump or swelling on the frontal side of the head is indicative of osteoma, osteoma on the forehead or skull may cause headaches. Osteomas are benign growths of bone, they ideally require no treatment, they are harmless.

However, you are advised to get clinically examined by an oncologist, get biopsy, X-ray, CT and MRI done to be on the safer side and to detect any other medical condition like tumors, malignant growths, injuries, trauma, etc., so that you can be treated at the earliest.

Osteomas may not always need treatment. When treatment is necessary, your treating doctor will remove the growth. Before removal the treating doctor may monitor the growth over time and treat it only if needed. You can take Acetaminophen, one sat when needed to get rid or inflammation, swelling and headache.

Staying away from stress, anxiety and a quality sleep at night will help to reduce the symptoms. Dehydration and hypoglycemia may cause such symptoms. Stay well hydrated, take fluids and water. Take food in time, do not miss meals.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
