Husband Has Difficult Time Enunciating His Words, But Denies It By Telling His Mouth Is Dry Due To His Medicines. Suggestions? Drinking?
My husband says he is not drinking but after work he often comes home and has a difficult time enunciating his words, says his mouth is dry from either his meds or he didn't eat lunch. He had a serious concusion several years ago I am worried this is an indication of a more serious problem This usually happens late in the day. Everyone notices but he denies he is not talking clearly
If your husband has slurred speech it is possible that he may be drinking. But, a more serious possibility is that he is having a neurological problem which could be a consequence of the concussion as well as chronic alcohol use. You must also try and check if he is confused or disoriented during the late part of the day as it may be a sign of delirium due to an underlying medical disease such as diabetes, kidney or liver disease etc. This can be checked by the doctor by interviewing him. You may consult a general physician or neurologist to have him evaluated adequately.
