Hysterectomy, Fluid Retension In Abdomen. Is It Tumour?
I am a 44 yr. old female with a complete hysterectomy ... No ovaries, cervix , uterus etc. I am retaining fluid in my abdomen area and my abdomen swells like I m pregnant. When I Wake up each morning my stomach is flat but as I start to move around I start to retain Fluid and my abdomen begins to swell, especially during exercising. I m afraid that I may have a tumor. During the removal of my ovaries, a general surgeon was called in because one ovary Had grown in my bile duct or something. What could possibly be causing this fluid retention and Swelling of my abdomen? What type doctor should I visit for answers and testing?
I understand the query. It would be extremely useful if you could post the indication for the hysterectomy as well as the report of the hysterectomy specimen after microscopic examination. As of now, since one of the ovaries was growing into the bile duct, it seems to be an ovarian tumor or cyst that needed a hysterectomy. The fluid collection could be the recurrence of the mass or a liver problem, or an unrelated issue like low proteins in blood or a heart problem.
I suggest that you first discuss with your gynecologist and get an ultrasound of the abdomen as well as the pelvis. This will help in deciding further line of investigations and if the need be for a referral to another specialist if needed.
Hope this helped. Thanks for using HCM. Have a good day. Dr Madhuri Bagde
