I am a 55 yer old female who began having debilitating pain under my xiphoid process. It is rapid onset lasting 15-60 minutes and there is nothing I can do to make it stop. The pain radiates to my back and does not affect to the right or left of the process, it is localized. I have a difficult time breathing during this pain and can not even talk. Movement makes it worse. The pain is so bad that I am not able to sit still and my ability to concentrate is nothing. I don't know how to describe the pain since the normal descriptions for pain do not seem to fit. I can only say it feels like a rock is trying to come out the front of my chest and bringing everything in there out with it. I have been very careful to try and notice what it could be related to i.e eating, bowel movements, activity, clothing, etc. I can not relate onset to anything. When the pain begins to subside, I am exhasted and very weak. I have been scoped both upper and lower, ct, blood work, chest x-ray, and ekg but the only thing that was found is kidney cancer which was removed but the pain continues. My gastroenterologist put me on bentyl and phenergan but that is not helping either. I am so frustrated that now I am told its IBS and there is nothing that can be done about it. PMH includes nausea unexplained x 5 years, anxiety x 5 years, Depression x 35 years, Gastric bypass in 94, complete hysterectomy and bi-lateral salpingoophectomy in 98. I am 170 pounds and recently stopped smoking. Other PMH includes hypothyroidism and hypercholesterolemia. I can handle a lot of pain, even having my teeth drilled on without meds, but this pain is like nothing I have ever experienced, including having three children. The thought of living with this pain for the rest of my life with nothing that can be done is overwhelming. With it's instantanous rapid onset, I cant even get to a safe place to sit down until it passes.
