I am having gastric problem and also throat pain. Does that have a connection? One of my friend said that his doctor told that they both are related.

Yes they can be related. The gastric acid that refluxes into esopgahus, causes inflammation and mucous secretion, which goes up and gets stuck in throat causing a sore throat like picture. Once the gastritis is properly controlled, the thoat symptoms also subsides.

Obviously they should be related as if you have gastric problem the undigested food comes up and harms your throat.
