I Am Suffering From Low Hematocrit, White Blood Cells, And Platelets
My recent blood work showed a dramatic drop in hematocrit, white blood cells and platelets since last year. Now they are below normal and I have been referred to a specialist. I eat a generally healthy diet, lots of fruit and veggies, protein, etc. What could cause this? I do have an appt. with a hematologist but I am doing some research beforehand.
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
A sudden drop in the blood cells can be due to an infection, an immune based reaction or drug intake or due to bone marrow suppression. A bone marrow biopsy might be needed if other causes are ruled out or do not seem likely. You need thorough investigations for diagnosis.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
