Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I currently have the flu, and I have a really bad sore throat. I ve been producing an excessive amount of salvia and I ve been getting choked on it so I started spitting it out. I ve almost filled up a whole water bottle with my salvia. I m starting to get worried about producing this much, I can t swallow it because my throat hurts too bad. I can t even drink anything because of throat pain. I just need some advice on what to do. I m only 16 so I m uneducated when it comes to these things.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM. I have gone through your query. Flu or common cold is due to viral cause and i initially you need only symptomatic management. Antihistamines like chlorpheniramine, nasal decongestants like phenylephrine and paracetamol will be helpful. You can also take tea with lemon, warm chicken soup and chewable vitamin c. If condition is worsening or there is purulent sputum you should consult your GP for antibiotic therapy. Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear. Thanks.
