Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had protected vaginal sex 1 week ago with a guy I met in school. We used condoms but my worry is concerning that online it states condoms are only 80% effective. Also the guy is a paramedic and back in 2009 he had a eye splatter exposure on the job. The paramedic company required him to go on post exposure medication and has had 9 clean tests (required by the company since 2009). In addition he reassured he was negative and has also fathered two healthy children since then... I'm overly nervous and I just think my nerves have gotten the best of me cause its all I can think about. I want to get the rapid hiv test but it's only been 1 week so I'm planning on taking it around the 4 week mark which states 97% of people will show antibodies at that time... should I be freaking out this bad, am I at high risk?
