I Have A BB Size Lump Just Above My Left

I have a BB size lump just above my left ankle. It can be soft or it can become very hard--like a BB. It is sore around the area but when the lump is hard it burns and is too sore to touch.
I've had it for a couple of months--it's not getting bigger but is is getting more painful. There is no redness or skin irritation in the area. What to do!
