General & Family Physician Dr. Tina Jacob Das's  Response
Hi there,
welcome to healthcaremagic. The lump sounds like a cyst(Baker's cyst), which with time might have got infected, or simply it must be the presence of lump that is bothering you and you keep tapping it alltime. You can use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents, ice, and assisted weight bearing, in addition to the correction of underlying intra-articular disorders. And get it shown to a surgeon.
