I Have Joint Pain And Swelling In Both Hands. I

I have joint pain and swelling in both hands. I am a cashier and do all my work with my hands, I used to take glucosamine/ condroiton but when my right thumb joint and that on my ring finger grew I quit because apearantly that did not seem to prevent joint damage. By now both my hands have swollen joints and are quite painfull. What can I do to ease the symptoms without taking cancer causing drugs?
