I Tried To Have Sex With My Boyfriend Last Month

I tried to have sex with my boyfriend last month (but I don't think I properly broke my hymen as I was a virgin) there was some bleeding though (during and after) and we thought oerhaps he had scratched me with his fingers. He never came in me though.
We tried again and he was able to fit in me and there was more blood since the first time we tried, and some spotting after. I haven't gotten my period since the first time we tried and that was about a month a go. I'm just concerned, I'm not on the pill but we used a condom
What does the blood spotting mean? Sometimes it's a dark brown colour
Also does the pill aid in weight gain?
