Hi,

In case you have high cardiovascular risk, you should take the medication lifelong. In case your cardiovascular risk is low, the other option can be lifestyle changes for 6 months. If it doesn't help, only after it medical treatment can be considered.
Your cardiovascular risk should be assessed. In case it is low, I would advise you to decrease the salt intake, exercise regularly, lose weight if you are overweight. You should avoid fast food and soda.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health
