I Was Just Wondering Why My Face Has Been Red Always?

Hello, I was just wondering why my face has been red always. Ever since I used this EPIDUO acne medication (still using it) my face has been red. At night I put it on, and then my face is red througout the day. Is their any possible way to stop this redness, because it looks like I always have a sunburn?

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

The medication that you have been using is a combination of adapalene and benzoyl peroxide. It is an effective antiacne combination

Adapalene belongs to a class of topical retinoids; topical retinoids are comedolytic and causes skin peeling. Besides topical retinoids have inherent irritant activity, and therefore some redness is expected.
Benzoyl peroxide is also an irritant and therefore, the two of these together in a combination can cause additive irritation, specially in those who have sensitive skin.

I would suggest you to temporarily discontinue this combination. Give a wash off period of at least 5-7 days to let the irritation subside. You may use a light moisturiser daily.

Thereafter you may start with short contact therapy i.e using it for just 2 hours every night and then wash it off Or use it every alternate night rather.

Use a gentle cleanser for face wash e.g cetaphil cleansing lotion and avoid using soaps.

Regards
