Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was on Zyprexa for 5 years between 1998 and 2002. I gained 100lbs (20lbs per year) 20lbs a year for 5 year for 5 years. I was 267lbs at my heaviest and with intervention from the Veterans Administration I got my weight down to 199lbs in 2004. I was put on Geodon in 2002 and lost 79lbs from 2002 to 2004. I will ask my psychiatrist. To check my blood labs this month and this question goes to him this month and I want to ask you: can Zyprexa do permanent damage to the pituitary gland? Between 2003 and 2010. I gained weight struggled end my weight was 225 to 228 this time. I am now 240lbs. I do cheat but I take 1 to 2 hour walks. That I've been doing the last 5 years sporadically. Weather permitting. Is the any permanent damage? I am 50 and I take synthroid too because of 9 years of lithium. I now only take depakote. And Geodon. For my bipolar I feel great never better in my life. All those years of mental hard work, therapy. 30 years of counseling. Paid off.
