If A Women Has AFP By What Time She Can Abort Baby ?

Hi, My name is Ragini. I am pregnant. It is my 17th week. My doctor told me i have high AFP. I did my ultrasound but did get proper result. So, i am going to do again. So I want to know if they will take too long to find out so untill what time i can abort my baby?

Hi Raging, isolated raised AFP is not indication for termination of the pregnancy. please get a congenital anamoly scan done from good radiologist .
if associated with neural tube defect or other major defects like omphalocele then their is indicative for termination.
In India you can terminate pregnancy till 20weeks with concent of two doctors.
Please repeat AFP if sonography report is absolutely normal,it could be lab error also.
Screen thoroughly before termination as it will be very traumatic to you to go through all this.
