I'm Having Very Sharp Shooting Pains In The Area Just

I'm having very sharp shooting pains in the area just below my right ear, probably in a gland I'm guessing. This is the second night in a row this has happened and they are quite painful. They don't last long, thank goodness. I had the same thing a couple of years ago, went to the dr. Thought it might be in my ear in connection with a cold, and they did go away, but I don't have a cold and this seems more like in an area below my ear rather than in my ear. Any ideas?
