Impetigo, Developed New Lesions. Prescribed Antibiotics. Is It Virus?

My son who is 9 has impetigo since last Friday. I took him to the doctor who prescribed antibiotics. His blisters were healing well and I thought he would be well enough to go back to school tomorrow. However, I have seen he is developing new lesions in the same area near his nose and mouth. How long can impetigo last while you are on antibiotics please? I thought the drug would slow or stop the development of the virus and thus, any new blisters? Thankyou. Michelle

Hello,
Thanks for the query,

Impetigo is not a viral infection, It is bacterial in origin

The fluid of the lesions is contagious and hence causes new lesions.

Dont worry, He will be fine with antibiotics.

Antibiotics need to be used for a longer period.

Let me know if you have any other doubts.
