In Need Of 3 Root Canal Treatments. Unbearable Pain. No Relief With Painkiller Tablets. Help
My 31-year old daughter got tooth pain at the beginning of the week, resulting in an oral surgeon telling her on Friday she needs 3 root canal treatments. We are in New Zealand, so diagnosis was around 24 hours ago. She has been prescribed Nurofen plus, which helps for a brief period, but then the pain comes back at full force. She is just about dying of pain. Took 1 amoxycillin at 6 am, with 2 nurofen. Two further nurofen at 10 am, which basically didn't help. Topped it up with 2 paracetamol but still no relieve. From an accident last year I have tramadol lying around so she has just taken two of those as 2 tramadol together with 2 panadol helped perviously. Advise please on what to take/not to take. She is very scared to take too much and damage her inside organs, but this pain is unbearable. Thank you.

I would like to inform you that as the infection is severe therefore painkillers will not work until the dentist drains some infection from her tooth. Do not overdose her with painkillers as they have side effects . Kindly visit a dentist and start with the treatment as recommended.
She can take tramadol but twice a day only.
Avoid eating hot foods for a while,
Do not apply nay hot compresses as the pain might flare up.
Kindly take medicines as prescribed by the dentist, antibiotics are a must in case of infection.

My only concern here is , please don't overdose yourself with painkillers. They have many side effects. Increasing the dose does not help in any way. The most adequate and effective dose is already prescribed to you by your doctor.
Continue on antibiotics which will reduce the infection and improve the condition. In case the pain is totally unbearable give an immediate visit to the dentist. Emergency access opening will be done and medication will be placed but more importantly pain will be relieved.

First of all pl do not take pain killers as your wish. The treatment of root canal treatment should be started immediately for relief of pain. The tooth must be infected and the pressure developed inside the tooth is resulting in the pain. The first step in root canal treatment will relieve the pain. Pl consult an Endodontist at the earliest for the start of RCT.

I understand that your daughter is having excruciating tooth pain and has been on pain killers ever since. I also understand that she needs three teeth to be treated for root canal treatment. This itself suggests that the amount of infection has surpassed symptomatic relief that is taking pain killers alone will not help her.
It is advised that she starts with a higher antibiotic amox clav combination with a pain killer. Following which she needs to undergo rootcanal as soon as possible.Taking pain killers for a prolonged time is dangerous.

According to your clinical history i suppose that you have developed severe infection in the teeth, drainage of the abscess will give relieve from pain please do not take too many analgesic at a time as it may lead to side effects.
I would encourage you to visit the Dentist and start with the treatment.
Analgesics and antibiotics will give temporary relief.
I would advise you to take pain killer twice a day.
Take lukewarm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.

Since your dentist has suggested root canal treatment for your 3 teeth,you have to get it done as soon as possible.
The pain is due to the infected pulp remaining within the pulp canals of 3 teeth.
Analgesics can relieve pain only temporarily.
So I would suggest you to get the infected pulp removed at the earliest for relief from pain.
Avoid intake of hard,solid foods.
Intake of very hot or too cold fluids has to be limited as it can aggrevate pain.
Always maintain good oral hygiene.
Take care.

only pain killers will not provide any relief so please dont overdose it will harm.
so consult endodontist as soon as possible until then you give him tab augmentin 625 mg bd,tab ebility tds, gargle with warm saline water 3to 4 times a day it will provide her little relief..
