Infected With HPV. Dark Bleeding, Clots. What To Do?

I recently found out that I am HPV positive about 5-6 weeks ago. I am 34 with 3 kids and I am in a monogamous relationship with my husband. I started my monthly about 1 -2 weeks after I found out about the HPV. I went in for a pap because I felt like something wasn t right. When I started I noticed that my flow was very dark even black at times and was gritty . Normally I wouldn t be alarmed but it was like this through my entire cycle. Also, I was very fatigued. However, I brushed it off blaming the antibiotics that I was prescribed as a result of the infection. I am currently cycling now. My flow is exactly the same. What can this be and what should I do about it. I was told that I should have another pap in February to keep an eye on the HPV because the kind I have is the kind that can lead to cancer . Should I go ahead and go to the doctor sooner or am I being silly?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
The color of menstruation varies because along with fresh blood, clotted blood and some part of endometrial tissue is also peeled off of the uterus and can be seen as dark or brown tissue. HPV is human papilloma virus which is now proved to be a cofactor for cervical cancer. The HPV types 16,18,31 are the culprits. Pap is just a screening test to know if the cells are abnormal. Further testing is required to clearly tell that this is cancer. If the bleeding has increased in volume, is causing abdominal distress then I suggest you get an opinion from your doctor. Thanks.
