Infection On The Finger Nail. Swollen Finger. Skin Peeling Off. Is It Normal?

Hi Doctor, I had a small infection next to the side of my finger nail. My finger was a little puffy and hurt when I would type. So I soaked my finger in epson salt and warm water, then I applied Vitacilina antil bacterial cream. The next day it healed and was better. Then I started to notice my finger that had the infection skin started to peel off

Hi thanks for writing here.You have got nail fold infections,which is known as paronychia.It is of two types acute and chronic,acute is caused by bacteria while chronic is from fungus. In your case you have got acute one,also you have already started treatment and it is in control ,skin peeling is common after infections and dead layer is removed and fresh layer will form,so you need not to be worry about it.You can just apply a emollient if required.Avoid harsh soaps and detergents ,since they may cause irritation and can lead to reinfection.Take care.
