Injured Knee Jumping A Fence, Hurts While Walking. Pain In Middle Of Knee To Foot. Help?

Hi there,
I recently injured my knee after jumping a fence. I thought it was just a mild sprain so I've been icing it and wearing a soft, knee stabilizer when walking around campus but after two weeks I'm still in a lot of pain.

The pain started out in the outermost side of my knee and only hurt when I put pressure on it. Now it hurts a bit while walking, and the worst pain is when I try to lock my knee or if I bump it into something that causes it to flex backwards. It also seems to hurt more after walking around campus for a while and that is the only time it swells (not badly, just a bit puffy). Now two weeks later I'm getting a pain down the middle of my knee and into my foot, but only at random times in the day.

I'm wondering if this could be worse than a sprain? And how should I be treating it differently?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,
Well if i were your doctor i would advice a weight bearing X-ray of your knee. The problem could have been due to a sprain or a tear in any of your ligaments. Knee joint is a very complex joint with at least 13 supporting ligaments. Each with its own specific function.
In the mean while you can wear a knee brace and see if it helps solve the problem.
