Insulin Dependent Diabetic. Taking Avapro For Heart Rate Control. History Of Prostate Cancer, Hepatitis Infection. Vomiting, Yellow Skin
I am an insulin dependant Diabetic - insulin as I have experienced severe allergic reaction - vasculitis - on inital prescription of oral anti-glycaemic medication. I have been taking Avapro for heart rate control for about 8 years and quite often, even without exertion, my pulse rate will rise above 100bpm. I will be 75yoa in August. My other prescribed med. is 5mg Neo-mercazole daily. For pain I use Aspro Clear, and for for stronger occassionally use Oxycontin 20mg or Endone 5mg - OxyC- only when Aspro and Endone are not effective. Note the last OxyC- scrip was dispensed by my Pharmacist in January and I still have 10 tabs on hand. I have had Prostrate Ca had Radiotherapy 1965 and Turps 2002. I also had a severe Hepatitis infection in 1972 and consequently have problems with my liver ascerbated following Oncologist prescribed (during R/therapy for Prostrate Ca) Paracetamol 1gr 4 hrly and also Panadeine Forte x 2 tabs 4 hrly at 2 hours after Paraceetamol 1gr. which resulted in my collapse after 4 months. I also experienced projectile vomiting then unconsciousness and collapse with yellowing of skin when prescribed an NSAID analgesic following TKR in 1967 so am unable to use NSAID meds. Question, would it be safe for me to take Propanolol? Regards, Les Mitchell
Hi, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. Propanolol interacts with Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs ( nsaids). It levels with ranitidine type drugs , if so ,reduce cardiac output and also heart rate. Side effects of propanolol are nausea, lethargy , cold hands and feet, bronchospasm. breathlessness. Consult your treating doctor and get in treatment according to his advise. Good luck. Dr. HET
