Intense Leg Cramps At Night, Hot Tingly Feeling In Feet Post Delivery, Had Gestational Diabetes. Normal?

I had a baby about 5 mo ago via c section; i had gestation diabetes during my pregnancy and at my 6 week follow up, my sugar test came back indicating i was glucose inhibited testing 177 after 2 hour test. I have not been having horrible leg cramps at night and hot tingle feeling in my feet . I wear compression socks to sleep which helps ease the pain some. I also drink water regularly throughout the day. Is this something normal after pregnancy?

Hi there.

Before I answer the query I want to know if you are breast feeding the baby? If so, are taking appropriate amount of supplementation of both calcium and Vit D and also iron in case it is less than 11 gm%?

As cramps in the legs with tingling sensation can be due either to low Iron- iron deficiency anemia, or to low Calcium as your body calcium and iron are going into the milk.

Then now you have a diagnosis of IGT- impaired glucose tolerance though not a full blown diabetes post-natally. This kind of condition of sugar intolerance can also cause tingling of feet eventhough sugars are not very high. So try losing your weight and be stricter with diet to normalize the sugars in normal range and you should feel better.

But please make sure you are taking optimum supplements of calcium and iron as for most of the postpartum ladies that is the reason for such symptoms.

I hope you got an idea through this answer. For any further query do contact me back. All the best.
