Hi,
The use of emergency contraception is known to cause menstrual disturbances as the pill contains large doses of hormone that disturbs the normal cyclical pattern. This is the reason for the bleeding seen after the pill usage; it is the withdrawal bleed. Also, you are likely to have cycle disturbances for the next couple of cycles. therefore, it is not advisable to use the pill as a routine, reserve it for extreme conditions. See your doctor for further suggestions.Take care.

OB & GYN Specialist Dr. Dr. Soumen Patra's  Response
Hello,
Following taking postinor 2 as emergency contraceptive pill, a withdrawal bleeding similar to period occurs within 7 days. It is quite common & normal phenomena. Next period may be delayed or earlier due to hormonal imbalance.

Postinor 2 is highly effective (more than 99%) against unwanted pregnancy. Early pregnancy test is no value. You have to wait for next coming period and home pregnancy test can be done after 7 days of next missed period to exclude/ confirm pregnancy.

Avoid stress, take healthy diet with iron supplements, maintain genital hygiene and need adequate rest. Also practice safe sex by using safe period/OCP/Condom etc to avoid unwanted pregnancy & unnecessary vaginal bleeding.

Be well & take care.
