Irregular Periods. Noticed Dark Spots. Have Marina Coil. Suggest

Hello, please could you help me. I have just been to the bathroom and to my surprise, i have a very unusual discharge that i have never had before, I am 30 years old, and i have had the marina coil in since October 2010. There is no smell, itching or anything like that, i have had a small amount of blood, I bleed iregulary anyway, but it was the only way i can describe it , it looks almost like , well, sprinkles of spices, i know its not spices; but that's the only way i can describe what they look like, they are tiny dark flakes

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

In all likelihood, the specs that you are describing are related to tissue shedding from the lining of the uterus (where the IUD is located). Sometimes old blood / tissue can look like this - and it fits with the fact that you bleed on occasion. It is never wrong to check a pregnancy test and if this persists beyond a week, call your doctor.

I hope that this helps!
