Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello - I recently, have been experiencing pain in the back of my neck and have had a lump on the side of it for over 19 years, however, today, it has become very hard to swallow and my left arm which, I think I tore a router cup maybe seems to be getting worst. Do you think any of these symptoms are related? I am 62 years of age. And further, found out my heart rate is 59bps...low?
Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
A normal heart rate, standardized for the world population is 60-100 beats per minute. It can assume other figures in various times a day, and depending on the physical and psychological activity. For instance, heart rate can go further down while sleeping and in the hours of the night, and it can go up if we are engaging in physical activity or undergoing to a lot of psychological stress. A heart rate of 59 beats per minute is not considered low, and my opinion is that you have nothing to worry about this concern.
The long-standing, 19-year old lump you are describing is probably a lypoma, which is benign, but I think you should discuss a surgeon about the possibility to remove it, because if it gets bigger can press against other organs and produce symptoms. I will not speculate that these symptoms are related, but also I cannot deny it, because it is not impossible that it is pressing against other structures of the are.
I hope I was helpful. Take care.
Best regards, Dr. Meriton
