Is AC Causing Sore Throat, Hoarseness, A Bit Of Shortness Of Breath?

Hi, My mom has a sore throat, hoarseness, a bit of shortness of breath or a tightening feeling of the chest (she also has a dry cough although she won’t admit it). I was wondering if maybe the AC could have made her sick and she asked me to look up information on strap throat and laryngitis (in addition to the air conditioner) as possible causes for her symptoms. As well I believe that she’s had the sore throat for about 4 days now. Any ideas on what she may have and if there s any need to see a doctor in regards to it?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is most likely a viral upper respiratory tract infection (common cold or flu). This can cause all the symptoms mentioned.

Air conditioning can contribute to illness if it is not cleaned appropriately but it is possible that it is not linked to her present symptoms.

If she is an asthmatic or experiencing asthma symptoms then she should see her doctor as soon as possible.

If this is not the case then treatment consist mainly of: (1)resting the voice
(2)steam inhalation may help as well
(3)cough suppressants

I hope this helps
