Is Azithromycin Safe To Give For Throat Pain While Swallowing?

Hi , good morning, My child has been suffering from cough and fever with 6 times enlarged enlarged adenoids. We were advised to start clavam 625 mg twice daily- have given 4 doses. My child is 33 kgs. Since 2 days , our ENT Specialist advised Efcorlin nasal drops 3 times daily because my child was breathing through the mouth as his nasal passage is blocked.Because he is breathing through the mouth he makes lot of noise while sleping. Now again my child is complaining of throat pain while swallowing. Is it necessary to add to Azithromycin 300mg or continue same RX. Kindly advise....thank you .....Kiran

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Adenotonsillitis in children usually precedes a viral flu like illness. As your child is having enlarged adenoids, even mild cold could have resulted in nasal block. As the child is already on amoxyclav then no need to start on azithromycin as amoxyclav is the preferred drug in this case.
