Is Azithromycin The Right Medication For Cough In A Child?
Hi my daughter she s cough to much I today I take her to doctor and he give me medication azithromycin 100mg /5ml suspension..I start today around 7pm I give to her I she still cough if is ok to give her medicine from the self in the pharmacy name is cold s cough thank you
It's not advisable to take medicine without consulting doctor, self medication is not recommended. If she has bacterial infection than Azithromycin is OK. Cough and cold might be related to viral infection, antibiotics is not required in case of viral infection. In my opinion you should give her symptomatic treatment like cough syrup and decongestant is still OK but you shouldn't give her Azithromycin without consulting doctor.
If her condition doesn't improve with symptomatic treatment than you should take her to a pediatrician for physical examination, chest auscultation and a battery of investigation to rule out infection.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask for follow up question and I will gladly answer you.
Best wishes, Dr. B R Hudda
