Is BRAT Diet Recommended For Blood In Stool, Nausea And Weakness?

Hello, I ve had frequent loose bowel movements for the past week. In the last two days I ve noticed bright red blood in my stool. I feel slightly nauseous and weak. I think it may have been something I ate. Should I try eating rice and bananas (BRATT Diet)?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if BRAT diet recommended for blood in stool, nausea and weakness. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like gastrointestinal bleeding, hemophilia , peptic ulcer , constipation or piles . Doctor recommend BRAT diet to help your body ease back into normal eating. This diet may also help ease the nausea and vomiting . You can add other bland foods to the BRAT diet like saltine crackers, boiled potatoes or clear soups. Don’t start eating dairy products and sugary or fatty foods right away. These foods may trigger nausea or lead to more diarrhea. If condition doesn't get better then consult gastroenterologist for proper examination and treatment .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
