Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mum is in hospital recovering from pneumonia and fluid in the lungs. She has been told she is now medically fit. I was concerned as she appeared to be deteriorating slightly. She has been prescribed buscopan injections to help with her breathing as she appeared to be struggling slightly how do they work.
buscopan has nothing to do with breathing. It's a spasmolytic drug which means that it relaxes the smooth muscles of renal and gastrointestinal structures and relieves the associated pain. You should ask your doctor, why he prescribed them to you. Did she have any renal colic or abdominal symptoms? Pneumonia and pleuritis are no indication for buscopan.
I hope I've helped! You can contact me again if you'd like, for further details or to provide more information regarding her condition.
Kind Regards!
