Is Ciprodex Safe And Effective For Treatment Of Eye Infection?

My 47 year old son is visiting us from out of state. He went to see a general doctor here for an eye infection. He received a prescription for ciprodex with instructions to use it in his eye. The insert says not to use in eye (it says otic or use in ear) but prescription is to use it in the eye. He is leaving in the morning to go back home with his family. I started googling this as I personally have had a bad reaction to cipro oral pills after only 3 doses almost 3 years ago.

Hello dear patient!

I carefully read your query. Ciprodex is a drug used for ear infections. If the insert says it is used for the ear only, don't use it for other purposes. Don't throw it in the eyes. There are other drugs that may be taken for eye infections. Try Tobradex or Maxitrol ophtalmic drops.

Kind regards!
Dr Eriol.
