Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How are Citalopram and Clonazepam similar? My doctor won t prescribe clonazepam because of my age and its addictiveness. She has been trying other meds for anxiety like citalopram. I have been feeling somewhat nausea but have only taken two 10 mg tablets over 2 days. Could my general ill feeling be something else and not the medication.
I understand your concern. Citalopram is a drug that belongs to the class of SSRI, and is an effective drug for anxiety. Clonazepam can also be used for anxiety, but it belongs to the class of Benzodiazepines, which are usually drugs that create dependency so it is best to avoid long time use. Mild nausea is a common side effect of Citalopram, but if continues and it bothers you, please talk to your doctor about the possibility of switching to another medication. It should be noted however that all anti anxiety drugs are associated with side effects that differ from person to person.
I hope this helps. Wishing you all the best
