Is Clonidine Patch Advisable For Headache And High BP?

I still have some Clonidine patches. Headache woke me up. I then took my pressure (3:31 a.m.). It was high 164/102/70. Because I had some Clonidine patches in my refrigerator, I put one on. Is this ok? 2 days ago, I was hospitalized because of my pressure (191/118/73) and an excruciating headache. Evidently, my present BP medications are not effective again. I have a doctor s appointment for Wednesday Dec. 28, 2016. MY PHONE # 908 756 1958.

Hello,

Your blood pressure needs to be controlled. If one medicine is not effective in controlling blood pressure like in your case then two antihypertensive medication has to be started.

The combination medicine like tamsulosin plus amlodipine can be prescribed for you if suitable to you after your examination.

Still, if blood pressure not controlled than a secondary cause for hypertension has to be ruled out like kidney disease or some endocrine problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
